In that one sentence political satirist (and politically right-leaning) P.J. O’Rourke succinctly defined the motivations and consequently the lack of effectiveness of the Republican Party to govern or even participate in the various processes of government. In fact Ronald Reagan, the patron saint of the Conservative movement, once famously said, “Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”    Read more

So much for supporting the troops, right? Sure, no one is rooting against them but who except those directly affected by our two ongoing wars is rooting for them? In reality it is like they hardly exist at all. Indeed we get updates; however, they tend to come in ticker form, a mere blip on the national radar, far from headline news. The Russians weren’t able to do it, and before them the Brits failed miserably as well. Yet somehow we believe that the outcome will be any different for the U.S. military. Keep in mind that both of our predecessors were beat back quite convincingly. Also keep in mind that the Russians expended considerably more resources than we have and were still unable to attain victory (it should be noted that U.S. intervention also helped stifle the Russian onslaught).
