Two campaigns for governor come to an end yet we don't ask how these winners stand to govern -- rather how Christie's victory boosts his Presidential run and how McAuliffe's win may bolster Hillary's race.
As we deal with the healthcare website's problems, instead of standing firm for getting Americans covered, the GOP is ready to run midterm races against Obamacare and Dems wimpily wonder whether to run away from it.
And as America climbs back from the shut-down, instead of standing tall to run the country, The Tea Party fixates on running primary right-wingers, and Ted Cruz limbers up for a run for the White House.
With so much running, you'd think they are marathoners, but they are just politicians running wild. We could use a few who run less, stand a little more -- and are upstanding, understanding and outstanding as well.
What good is running for everything if, in the end, you stand for nothing?

Our nation is reeling from a catastrophic storm on the East Coast that is of historic proportions. From Lower Manhattan to New Jersey and beyond, epic flooding has killed dozens and stranded countless others. In this population-dense area, the property damage is difficult to fathom- yet there is help. National, state, and local agencies are working gallantly to help those in need and restore what has been broken. We are watching our country do what it’s best at: step up and be a good guy.
It’s terribly easy to forget what’s important in a political climate like the one we’ve suffered in for over ten years. The divisions between the political parties are reflective of the rip in our nation’s heart. “Us against them” is what we’ve come back to- yet this is inaccurate to who we really are. In the face of the epic destruction of Sandy, we see once again who we really are. Read more
I must confess: I have not liked the New Jersey governor because of his consistent rudeness. However, he has just moved up the scale as a politician and especially as a Republican politician, thanks to his remarks made over the networks and cable TV, giving President Barack Obama praise for his response to emergency assistance after Hurricane Sandy’s destruction in New Jersey.
The governor told NBC “Today” that, “The president has been outstanding in this. The folks at FEMA … have been excellent.”
Gov. Christie later at a news conference said, “I don’t give a damn about Election Day. It doesn’t matter a lick to me at the moment,” adding “I’ve got bigger fish to fry.” Read more
Chris Christie announced he'd speak blunt truths! ...then repeated common conservative canards, tired baseless attacks & predictable outright lies.
Paul Ryan promised fresh ideas for America! ...then recycled reworded trickle-down rhetoric and found fresh ways to choose fiction over fact.
Next, Mitt Romney will think outside the box! ...but really will speak out both sides of his mouth while remaining trapped in a right-wing corner.
This management consultant candidate promised his party would bring an unconventional approach, but with misleading myths & feisty falsehoods, this GOP Convention's been, well, conventional.

The GOP thought they'd be flyin' high on the boost of Paul Ryan, but instead they find themselves brakin' to avoid the disaster that's Akin. Just when they thought we'd get misty at the excitement of keynote Chris Christie, their convention plans all started quakin' as they try to shake free of Todd Akin. Republicans are assailin' and wailin' from Scott Brown to old Sarah Palin, but they're failin' to drive the last stake in to the heart of their candidate Akin. Read more
There’s always a great sense of shock to everyone when a mother not only takes her own life but chooses to take her children with her. It’s most disturbing because of what a mother’s relationship with her children is for most families. Most mothers would gladly give up their own lives to protect their children. Yet here we have another mother choosing to kill her own children before taking her own life. Read more
Stephen King has been on a roll lately. His most recent novel 11/22/63 was a welcome return to form and his best work in years. And now he has this excellent essay, in The Daily Beast, on the subject of taxes: Read more
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Tuesday that the U.S. is turning into a “paternalistic entitlement society” that will bankrupt the country financially and morally because “we’ll have a bunch of people sittin’ on a couch waiting for their next government check.”
This is comming from a man who is over 400 pounds? He should fire his speech writer who added the phase "bunch of people sittin’ on a couch". It seems that all Chris christie does......hahahah!

Q. Why is the GOP like a Baskin-Robbins franchise?
A. Because they're both suckers for the flavor of the week.
Scientists have yet to uncover what causes Republicans to recoil from their own candidates like a tomboy from frilly underwear. Perhaps they're commitment phobic. Or channeling the Christmas morning four-year-old in all of us, ignoring gifts already opened, only interested in the next package stacked in the pile. Maybe they need to switch to decaf. Read more

Tonight, WonderWife and I watched what has got to be one of the most heart-wrenching, stomach-churning CNN specials I believe I’ve ever seen. No, it’s not about the Somali killing fields, or black civil rights, or anything that the normal world, so-called, would consider important. The fact that CNN thought it was important enough to do and put up is astonishing. Read more
